While we are fairly serious and passionate in our pursuit of being homesteaders and advocates within the food system, honestly, we are just a bunch of goofy, down-to-earth, basic humans. This family loves to spend almost every waking minute outdoors when we can, enjoying the luxuries that life has given us to be able to enjoy things such as hiking, camping, planting our gardens, dancing in snow and making weird veggie jokes. Together we became passionate about this simple small farm dream.
Olivia The farmer florist, and dreamer of this business.
Hi, I am Olivia, also known to my family as Lilly, a nickname among too many other nicknames I have acquired over my lifetime (Josh's favorite is Lizard). I'm an introverted, but sometimes an outspoken Aries. A mother, a want to be scientist, an artist, sometimes teacher and most of the time just a pure laborer. I live to work and play hard, I am a people pleaser, and I love collaboration. My roots are originally from the high desert mountains of northern Arizona, where I spent most of my childhood life, but I also have other places that I call home for different reasons, including this home we have created in the Bitterroot Valley. With a degree in Environmental Science, I developed a passion specifically for farming as a way to combat the climate crisis we have been continually confronting. I also as a young adult became passionate about floral design. With over a decade of experience working in the floral industry on and off, and 11 seasons ago since the beginning of my introduction of working on farms.I have farmed, grown flowers and designed all over this beautiful country. Some of my other passions that many of you will see me involved with is herbalism and foraging and other crafts like soap making, I want to be able to walk into a forest and know every plant and species that surrounds me, it makes me feel like I understand the world a little better and it is very empowering. I also am passionate early childhood education (winters you might see me around as a substitute teacher). And sometimes I am a downhill or cross country ski bro. :) My dream has always been to run my own sustainable cut flower operation, and perhaps one day a linkage to a fully local and sustainable flower shop. Even though the dream changes and I find new passions every year.
Josh "The farmers wife." (His direct words)
Formerly most of you might know Josh formerly from the Ravalli County Fairground as the maintenance guy, but now he is working for Local Bounti as a grow tech at one of their hydroponic facilities. He also is currently mentoring and doing tree trimming and arbor work in the valley and hoping to get the couple years needed under his belt to become a certified arborist. His knowledge and passion for tree life is deep and wide, and he has a strong passion for advocating for natural habitats being maintained, and pruning in ways that is best for tree longevity. In his free time and life on the farm he is the epitome of being a jack of all trades. Josh is originally from Colorado, but has also spent many years of his younger adult life traveling the world by bicycle, and went to college in St. Louis. With a degree in Women and Gender Studies, Josh is a true ally to women, working as an advocate for the LGBTQIA community, and formerly as a volunteer for a hotline helping victims of sexual assault. Josh is also a passionate bicyclist and has rode his bike all over the world including the TransAmerica bike route from the east coast to the west coast. After going to the United Bicycle Institute in Oregon, he got a job as a bicycle mechanic and eventually moved to Fort Collins to work at a bike shop. He also became a volunteer at the farm that Olivia worked at, which is how it all began for them. After Olivia and Josh became friends and later started to date, he also became passionate for growing food and the farm life. The sourdough bread baker, calculated + precise builder, wooden spoon carver, avid book reader and an incredible father and husband. He is the other half of this beautiful dream.
Emmer
Born in 2020! Our little pandemic baby was born. I wouldn't say it was the time or pregnancy that we imagined but honestly, I don't think we could imagine it happening any other way now. He has been such a delight for us during dark times that many of us have endured. Born a whopping 8 1/2 lb baby, a healthy and thriving Montana boy he is. Emmer loves to chatter with us, in the ways that he can, he loves new experiences but sometimes seems a little stoic, smiling is his favorite (yes in Will Ferrell's voice), and he is completely enamored when he gets to work in the greenhouse and on the farm with mom. We hope he loves this farm life as much as we do!
Oliver
Oh Oli, too much to say about one cat, how could that be you ask? Maybe it is because he isn't truly a cat, he is partially human, or perhaps an alien. Either way, this is not your typical feline encounter. In 2010 oliver became the companion to Olivia, and since then has been the best adventure buddy anyone could hope for. Named jokingly as a suggestion, Oliver and Olivia have been traveling this country together for over a decade. He is the chronic sneezing cat (literally no vet can figure this out!), camping and hiking, loves car rides and road trips and will always follow the humans when they are walking around the farm. He just likes to feel like one of the crew and truly he is. You can entice him with an offering of beans (name for treats).
